“I so vividly remember the first time I saw a Humpback in the wild.  It's grace and power changed my life.  The sounds, the feelings, and the awe never gets old.  I feel so grateful to be able to share these experiences with others!  I look forward to the opportunity to discover Alaska's magnificent whales with you all!”
--Emily Dietz
Emily Dietz was born and raised in the Midwest, spending her childhood locked in between Missouri and Illinois. During a 6th grade field trip to the Florida Keys she discovered her love for the ocean and its creatures. Her love for animals developed over the years, leading her to pursue an education in marine biology at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL. After developing a love for marine sciences she was determined to learn even more.
On her way to learn more she made an extended pit stop training the world renowned Budweiser Clydesdales. Yep, you read that right! No sea horses here, only draft horses. After several incredible years of working with the gentle giants of the land, she started yearning for some coastal animals.
Emily had always dreamed of visiting Alaska, so she and her dad planned, what they thought would be a one in a lifetime trip to the 49th state. While there she became so enthralled by the excess of natural beauty Alaska boasted, that she packed up and moved within six months.
While Emily came here for the beauty, she stays in Juneau for the whales. After the first vivid memory of seeing a humpback in the wild, she was hooked.
Note from Jayleen: Emily was my naturalist and crew on the whale watching boat I was captaining all last summer. Her knowledge and love for these animals seemed to outrank even my own. Her customer service was top notch and her sincere care for our passengers made her friends left and right. I feel very lucky to have Emily as part of the Jayleen’s Alaska team.
