Captain Alana

Meet Alana

Hello, I’m Alana and I’m excited to share with you an unforgettable whale-watching adventure, at home on the pristine waters of Southeast Alaska! Every day out here feels like a gift—humpback whales dipping, diving and feeding beneath the waves against the backdrop of glacial peaks, playful noisy sea lions with eagles soaring high overhead. These waters are my home year-round and there’s nothing I enjoy more than bringing others along for the ride!

I’ve called Juneau my Home the last 7 years yet my journey to Alaska started far from here, off the coast of East Florida and the Keys. My boating experience started as a kid, sailing and snorkeling alongside my parents, dive masters, foraging and exploring our vast marine ecosystem. That early love of the ocean and marine wildlife lead to an extraordinary world, full of opportunities, exploring our seas as both a captain and science communicator.

The last decade of my life has been spent guiding and educating others, from WNC to Alaska, expanding into the Polar regions. The last 4 year traveling extensively throughout SE Alaska’s marine highway in the summer, from remote fishing village to village along the inside passage. When I’m not home in A’akw Kwáan hiking or kayaking, you can find me piloting boats in the high Arctic of Canada of West Greenland, or in the Southern Ocean off the coast of Antarctica. I’ve had the privilege of working as a wildlife guide, naturalist, and polar bear guard on film expeditions in the Arctic and capturing the underwater antics of penguins in Antarctica.

Whether I’m driving zodiacs on a wildlife tour or navigating tricky ice filled fjords, my greatest joy comes from sharing these adventures with others. When you join me on the boat, it’s about more than spotting whales. It’s about feeling the wonder of the wild, breathing in the crisp, fresh air, and embracing the quiet thrill of discovering something new. So come aboard, and let’s explore together—I can’t wait to show you the magic of SE Alaska.
