Meet Captain Luke:

Luke has been local to Juneau for ten-years. Originally from Reno, Nevada, the Pacific Ocean is not where this desert dweller saw himself at 34-years old. But if you ask him now, he’d have it no other way. Luke excels in marine life viewing and natural history. His area of specialties include Humpback Whales, land predators, coastal geology, Alaska history, toponymy, and Alaska Native culture.

As a teenager, Luke spent several summers living in Alaska’s Brooks Range with his father, a prestigious Grizzly Bear guide and researcher. The desolation and wild moments of these summer expeditions led Luke back to Alaska in 2012 after serving three tours of service in the U.S. Army.

Captain Luke earned his 50-ton USCG License in 2016 while serving as a marine mammal naturalist for a Juneau-based whale-watching company. He accelerated his maritime experience by completing Alaska’s 440-mile Inside Passage by kayak and holds the world record for crossing the Atlantic Ocean by Pure Class rowboat in 51 days as captain for the US Veterans Ocean Rowing Team. Big waves won’t stop this whale nut! More affectionately referred to as Bob Ross by cohorts, Luke challenges himself to get the very best photo angles and opportunities while guiding his passengers. As with all of Jayleen’s crew, Luke is happy to assist you with camera settings, troubleshooting, and pro tips in order to capture your memorable experience on board.
