Meet Steve

Hello! I am Captain Steve, Jayleen’s uncle & previous owner of Alaska Humpback Adventures.

Water has always been an important part of my life. I grew up waterskiing and sailing on Lake Washington and the Puget Sound. I have boated for over 50 years, 37 of those in the waters of Southeast Alaska.

16 years ago I started working as a whale watching boat captain in Juneau for Jayleen’s dad, Jay Beedle. It is with great joy and a full circle that I now join Jayleen’s Alaska. I am excited to work for Jayleen and believe that Alaska Humpback Adventures could not be in better hands.

This winter, after many years guiding tours in Juneau and saying goodbye to the humpbacks every fall as they make their migration, I had the wonderful opportunity to join them in Hawaii. In fact, I am writing this bio on the Big Island where I am a whale watching boat captain (for Da Whale Boat Company). Being with the whales in Hawaii has made my wonder and awe of the whales grow and given me an even greater appreciation for our Juneau whales.

While I have a passion for humpback whales, my deepest longing and desire is to share God’s love with others. (I was a pastor for 16 years prior to becoming a boat captain).

My wife, Janet, and I have been married for 37 years. We have seven children (four of whom are married) and nine grandchildren (with one more due this summer). Three of our children are Alaskan Native Tlingit Indians. Our two youngest daughters are pictured as well as 7 of our grandchildren.

If I am not out whale watching, I am with my family and black lab “Tola”, walking the beach, fishing, hiking, engaged in a sports activity or worshipping our Lord.

I hope to have the opportunity to share with you the wonder of the whales and the beauty of the Juneau area, the amazing place I am privileged to call home.
