Aside from the ease of everything involved, the whale watching experience was unlike anything I imagined. This was my second time to Alaska. The previous time I booked a very similar whale watching excursion with a different company and wanted the same experience. After looking into options with the other company, I found that the boats were bigger and allowed more people (which I wanted to avoid with my younger kids), and the times didn’t fit that well with my cruise port times and other excursions we had planned. Come to find Jayleen is the daughter of the other company’s previous owners who was likely our captain on that excursion on the previous trip. She set out on her own when her family sold the company in order to still offer that intimate experience I was looking for. I had no idea! But boy am I glad I booked with her incredible company. She should be very proud.
Luke, our captain, was truly incredible. His passion and respect for the animals and nature were admirable. He had tons of anecdotes about the whales, it was like he was speaking about his friends. He was very patient with my kids, spent time setting up a wonderful family photo, and did his best to find killer whales (unfortunately we didn’t see them, but he certainly tried). If/when I go back to Juneau, I will without a doubt book with Jayleen’s. Top notch.
